Lights, Beats and Eats Community Event. Saturday 14 September. 4pm to 9pm. 

The Hills Shire Council’s Orange Blossom Festival – Lights, Beats and Eats returns this weekend with a brand new look, feel and location! The community favourite will ignite Castle Hill Showground in colour, light and sound from 4pm to 9pm on Saturday 14 September. There’s an exciting line-up of entertainment and activities to keep you entertained, including top live music acts like Aussie rock legend Jon Stevens, dance and acrobatic group Dauntless Movement Crew, The X-Factor Australia Season One winner Reece Mastin and Lah-Lah’s Big Live Band from ABC Kids. Enjoy awesome dazzling light installations, delicious gourmet street food, roving entertainment, face painting and so much more! 

Highlights include:

Entertainment: Acts on the night include children’s entertainment group Lah-Lah’s Big Live Band from ABC Kids, dance and acrobatic group Dauntless Movement Crew, The X-Factor Australia Season Three winner Reece Mastin and Aussie rock legend Jon Stevens.

Food: Some of the best food trucks in the state will descend on the Showground, including Gelato Messina, Pimp My Chimney, Chur Burger, Smokin’ Grill Barbeque and Tsuru.

Light installations: See and snap photos with beaming light installations, including trumpet flowers and giant inflatable mushrooms. Plus, there will be glow-in-the dark face painting and light-up fairy floss.

Roving entertainment: To add to all the entertainment, LED dancers, hula hoop performers and fire twirlers will be wandering through the Showground on the night.

Skating rink: Enjoy a skating session around the OBF roller rink.

Fireworks: The evening event will end with a spectacular fireworks display.

 

King’s Fest at The King’s School North Parramatta. Saturday 14 September and Sunday 15 September. Gates open 10am. 

Staged on The King’s School’s picturesque grounds, King’s Fest is the School’s largest major event drawing in the King’s community, as well as many new to the community, from across Sydney and beyond. The event will be held over three days, commencing with the King’s School Art Show on Friday, 13 September, followed by a two-day King’s Fest weekend held on Saturday, 14 and Sunday, 15 September.

This year is especially exciting, celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Art Show, and the 25th Anniversary of the Art Prize.

King’s Fest will feature a range of favourite attractions such as the animal nursery, artisan and growers’ market, food and wine stalls, jewellery dispensers, wine and whisky tasting, high tea, carnival rides, festival food and musical entertainment the whole family can enjoy. You can also expect special guest performances from Nickelodeon’s Paw Patrol and Sesame Street. As well as, a kids DJ with a Bop Till You Drop Disco, that will keep them entertained for hours. On Sunday, everyone’s favourite returns – the All-British Vintage Car Rally, featuring over 1,200 cars.

Don’t forget to plan your Saturday to stay on and enjoy the afternoon entertainment and, new this year, King’s Fest’s twilight fireworks spectacular, commencing at 6.45pm.

Rural Fire Service Get Ready Weekend. Saturday 15 September.

Get Ready Weekend (14-15 September 2019) is a family friendly event and a great opportunity to meet your local firefighters, get involved in kids activities, climb abroad a fire truck, see firefighting displays and specialist equipment.

An opportunity for our community to honour the men and women of the Royal Australian Navy and our City’s namesake, HMAS Parramatta.

10:30am – 11:15am: Performances by Parramatta City Brass and Hills Concert bands. Prince Alfred Square.

11:15am – 12pm: Forming of the Guard and Parade Review, the Cenotaph, Prince Alfred Square

12pm – 12:30pm: HMAS Parramatta Freedom of Entry Parade commences at Prince Alfred Square, including the ‘Challenge’ on Lennox Bridge, continues down Church Street and concludes at Parramatta Town Hall.
