Be a Farmer for a Day at Golden Ridge Animal Farm. Friday 11 October, Saturday 12 October and Sunday 13 October.
Get your hands dirty on the farm and have a day you won’t forget. Golden Ridge Animal Farm is open every day in the school holidays. A standard visit to the farm follows a path of activities – holding baby animals, walking around the farm feeding and seeing the larger farm animal varieties, milking the cow and bottle feeding the baby lambs and goats. The Be a Farmer for the Day events are extra special. You get full access to the farm and get to visit any animal whenever you like, fully supervised by one of our farmers. Plus there’s scarecrow stuffing, egg collecting, pony rides, animal feeding, sheep and goat racing, gumboot throwing competitions and more! Purchase tickets here.
Lifeline Giant Book Fair Castle Hill. Friday 11 October, Saturday 12 October and Sunday 13 October. 9am to 5pm. Oakhill College.
You can visit the Lifeline Giant Book Fair at Oakhill College Castle Hill on Friday 11 October, Saturday 12 October and Sunday 13 October, open from 9am to 5pm both days. This book fair is HUGE. They will have tens of thousands of books in as-new and near-new condition. All funds raised support the vital services Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury provides for our local community – so help a good cause while grabbing your next great read!
Galston Valley Railway Open Day. Sunday 13 October, 9.30am to 3pm.
Run by the Hornsby Model Engineers’ Co-operative, Galston Valley Railway is an amazing and unique experience, particularly if you have a train fanatic in the family! It’s a miniature railway with a main line length of about 1km running through a picturesque bush setting, with a mix of steam and diesel trains. And it’s right here in the outer Hills, although you’d never know from simply driving past! We love it – you can read more here. 29 Mid Dural Road, Galston. Blacktown City Pet Festival. Sunday 13 October, 10am – 2pm. Blacktown Showground.
Enjoy a PAWsome day at the annual Blacktown City Pet Festival! Veterinarian and television presenter Dr Katrina Warren will host the event. There will be range of free services available at the Pet Festival including microchipping for Blacktown residents. Throughout the day there will be dog demonstrations and workshops from Steve Austin, director of K9 Training and Behaviour. There will also be the annual Pet Fashion Parade.

Make your mark with giant crayons, string and everything in between! Kids welcome, imagination encouraged. These school holidays, you will have the chance to create and learn about art in new and unexpected ways at Castle Towers’ four interactive pods! Saturday 28 September – Sunday 13 October. 10am to 3pm daily + 5pm to 8pm Thursday evenings.

Kings Langley Village Fair. Sunday 13 October. Pearce Reserve Kings Langley. 9am to 3.30pm.
Presented by the Kings Langley Lions Club and the Blacktown Council. The festival will be held from 9.00 am – 3.30 pm, with a range of activities and entertainment for the whole family, including stalls, stage performers, rides and workshops.
Hills Food and Wine Festival. Sunday 13 October. Bella Vista Farm. 10am to 4pm.
The inaugural Hills Food and Wine Festival will be held on Sunday 13 October from 10am to 4pm. There will be live music, rides for the kids, beverage sampling and food market stalls. More information can be found here.
Annual Family Fun Day Fete. Warrina Residential Care. Saturday 12 October. 10am to 1pm.
The annual Family Fun Day Fete will have a cake stall, crafts, men’s shed, gardening stall, books, white elephant, kinda farm, jumping castle, face painting, devonshire tea and a sausage sizzle. All funds raised will go towards items chosen by the beautiful residents to enhance the environment of Warrina Home.
Monthly Family Fun Day at Parklea Markets. Sunday 13 October. 11am – 2pm.
Parklea Markets holds a Family Fun Day on the second Sunday of every month. Join in the fun from 11am to 2pm including an animal farm, face painting, live music, jumping castles, rides, a colouring in competition and exclusive stallholder deals!
