Role: Service Director/Nominated Supervisor

WSU Early Learning is staffed by a professional and committed early childhood team. Our services operate with high staff /child ratios and takes a leading role within the local early childhood, family and University community.

As the Director you will effectively and efficiently manage the overall operations of the Service ensuring continued quality practice and responsive service delivery. Your leadership experience, up to date knowledge of the sector and passion for high quality early years education will enable you to lead, motivate, mentor and develop the educator and administration team. Your demonstrated experience in service management will ensure that you are across all funding, financial and legislative requirements and have the ability to establish supportive and professional relationships with families and the committee of management.

Essential criteria

  • Degree in Early Childhood Teaching or Diploma in Children’s Services.
  • Extensive experience in Managing Children’s Services 5-year minimum.
  • Current First Aid Certificate, Anaphylaxis and Asthma Management training
  • Demonstrate a high level of management and leadership skills including experience in a leadership role, motivating staff within an education and care service.
  • A high level of interpersonal skills and ability to establish effective professional relationships. This will include excellent oral and written communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in interpreting policy and be actively involved in the review of policies and procedures.
  • Experience in preparing and managing budgets, monitoring budgets and financial transactions against approved budgets
  • Staff management skills including competency in organisation, conflict resolution, time management and prioritising work load.
  • Demonstrate ability to exercise judgment with regard to the release of information on confidential matters
  • Demonstrate understanding of the principles of anti- discrimination, staff and student equity, workplace health and safety and other relevant legislation and the willingness and capacity to implement equal employment opportunity and work place health and safety plans, policy and programs.
  • DEC approved child protection training certificate
  • Working with children check clearance and number for verification
  • National police clearance
  • Sound knowledge of Education and Care National Regulation and Law
    Desirable Criteria
  • DEC Nominated Supervisor number
  • Experience in leading a team in the preparation and assessment under the National Quality Standard.
  • Strong experience in recruitment
  • Development of training and induction programs


The position is a full time position. An attractive salary package will be negotiated in accordance with qualifications and experience in accordance with WSU Early Learning Services Enterprise agreement.
