To help our kids, we must first see ourselves

“SEEN” is a groundbreaking feature-length documentary that explores the transformative power of personal healing for parents and delves into the scientifically supported effects of such healing on parenting and its impact on child brain development.

By focusing on the unexplored aspect of parents confronting their own childhood coping mechanisms, “SEEN” is poised to fill a significant gap in current narratives. It promises not just compelling storytelling but also the potential for profound societal impact, making it an appealing proposition for those looking to invest in content that drives change.

Our vision is to craft a film that deeply resonates with audiences, sparking a flame of self-reflection and personal growth. Through the unfiltered and authentic narratives of real parents, we reveal the remarkable potential of addressing trauma and attachment styles.

Story

The respected parenting educator, Maggie Dent shares confronting details about her lowest point as a parent for the first time in the new doco, Seen.

Maggie Dent’s shock confession: ‘I went to swing my son to hit him in the head’ As one of Australia’s foremost parenting educators, Maggie Dent has shared countless of her own parenting challenges raising her now adult four boys. Never before, however, has the author revealed the trauma that she herself faced at the hands of her own parents – and the moment that one of her own actions as a mum shook her to her very core.

Centered on candid interviews, this documentary delves into the lives of four individuals, each starting their journey with a pivotal wake-up call.A Chilean-born woman unravels her challenging childhood’s impact; a First Nations man realises he’s been a dad for only two out of 18 years; an adopted man confronts his anger’s root cause, and a German woman learns how emotional shutdown affected her and her children. These narratives show diverse paths to self-discovery, breaking free from ingrained patterns.

Experts in psychology, neuroscience, counseling, and developmental paediatrics provide insights into children’s needs and the science of understanding them.

Cinematic B-roll creates a contemplative and poetic tone, blending drama, family, and fantasy. Ultimately, viewers find inspiration as each story leads to acceptance and seeing ourselves and, in turn, seeing our children more clearly.

Note:  A minimum of 38 tickets need to be booked/sold by 31st Mar 2025 for the screening to go ahead.
