Hornsby Shire Council has just opened a newly upgraded fully fenced playground at the popular Brickpit Park in Thornleigh, featuring a junior ninja warrior course, a junior waterplay area, and more. Just in time for the school holidays, this revamped facility will be a fresh, fun playground for the community.

This playground is really pretty cool and has something for all ages.  The junior ninja warrior course will be perfect for older children wanting to test their abilities against a large mounted solar-powered stopwatch.  And of course it includes a warped wall at the end, just like on the popular TV show Ninja Warrior.

The waterplay area is small but plenty for younger kids to have fun in, particularly as the temperatures heat up.  This area is one of the shaded areas in the playground which is great for both kids and parents alike.

Other exciting new features include nature play elements and play equipment including swings, climbing equipment and flying fox retained from the original playground.  Whilst some of the play equipment is pretty stock standard for playgrounds, like the shaded slide and the climbing frame there are other more unusual equipment pieces that will be fun for kids to explore.

Additional trees, larger picnic shelters, shade sails and fencing have also been installed to enhance the park’s usability, comfort and natural beauty, while accessible toilets, completed last year, ensure that the park is fully accessible to all.

The playground’s design also offers a playful tribute to the site’s history as a former brickworks. A brick wall, showcasing a collection of heritage bricks donated by local brick collector Warwick Gemmell, adds a unique touch to the space, alongside inlaid details on the ground referencing the National Brickworks Co.

Looking ahead, the pedestrian circuit path and an off-leash dog park are expected to be completed by mid-2025, further enhancing the park’s appeal as a vibrant community hub.

This project was jointly funded by the NSW Government’s Place to Play Grant and Hornsby Shire Council.
