What’s not to love about Christmas? Santa, carols, lights and joy! And we can’t begin to tell you how many times mums post in the Hills District Mums Facebook group questions such as, “Where can my family go for great carols?, “Where are the best Christmas lights in the Hills?”. So we’ve pulled together the HDM Ultimate Guide to Christmas in the Hills!

We’ve done our best to capture everything and make sure it’s correct, but if you’d like to add to it or you think it needs editing, let us know. We’ll be rolling this baby out for the whole of the Christmas period!

Christmas events

Light Up Windsor Street Fair. Saturday 23 November. 5pm to 9.30pm. Thomson Square to Windsor Mall. Come and enjoy a performance by ‘The Beanies’ on our Light Up Windsor Stage and watch all of the great local entertainment groups amazing performances. Pick up a bargain or a Christmas gift from one of 50 market stalls or at one of our local businesses. Meet Santa and his helpers at Santa’s Workshop and drop your letter off in Santa’s mail box. Grab some dinner or dessert at one of our local restaurants which will be open till late. Immerse yourself in our Christmas light show featuring on some of the iconic buildings in Windsor Mall or have a play in our snow installation.

Christmas in the Square. Sydney Olympic Park. From Thursday 21 November to 24 December.Join in the Christmas spirit with a nightly celebration in Jacaranda Square, Sydney Olympic Park.  Each night from 6pm, there will be various activities and entertainment, an opportunity to connect with the local community and celebrate the season together. Then every half hour from sunset until 10pm, everyone can enjoy a little Christmas Magic – a light projection that turns the Square into a magical light spectacular, sure to entertain any age group! Christmas Kids Workshops at Castle Towers. Every Saturday and Sunday in the lead up to Christmas, Castle Towers will be holding Christmas Kids workshops.  There will be reindeer food making, Letters to Santa and Storytelling with Mrs Claus.  10am to 2pm, next to Santa.

Lighting of the tree ceremony, Rouse Hill Town Centre, Thursday 28 November from 5.30pm. Celebrate the spirit of Christmas at the Annual Lighting of the Tree Ceremony in Town Square Rouse Hill Town Centre. Enjoy a night of carols, fireworks performances from local dance schools. The Smurfs Christmas Show and giveaways. Festivities commence from 5.30pm.

Blacktown Christmas Light it Up Concert, Thursday 28 November 6pm-9pm. Includes a free Grinch show, christmas carols, live stage performances by community groups, face painting and a visit from Santa Claus.

Twilight Christmas in Beecroft. Thursday 28 November. 4.30pm to 8.30pm.

From November 29, Bella Garden at the Bella Vista Hotel will be transforming into a Christmas wonderland. Offering festive cocktails, carollers, wreath making class, gingerbread decorating class, high tea, bottomless brunch, Santa photos for kids, adults and your four legged friends, there are so many ways you can get into the festive spirit! Santa Parade at North Rocks Shopping Centre. Saturday 30 November. From 11am. Santa Claus is coming to town! Join NoRo in celebrating the arrival of Santa with a welcome parade with his friends! Parade commences outside Kmart.

Breakfast with Santa at North Rocks Shopping Centre, Saturday 30 November and Saturday 7 December. Join NoRo for Breakfast with Santa, for a morning filled with fun, food and Santa’s special friends. Cost – $5 per child. 7.45am arrival and 8am start. Make your booking at the Customer Service Desk.

Santa’s arrival at Seven Hills Plaza, Saturday 30 November, 10am – 11am. Join Santa, Mrs Claus and their friends as they welcome Santa to Centre Court.

FREE Mayor’s Christmas Fair at Bella Vista Farm. Saturday 30 November. Have your photo taken with Santa, enjoy themed activities including rides, craft and face painting, listen to Christmas carols and soak up the festive atmosphere. All children must be aged between 0 and 12 years of age and you must register for the event.  Book tickets here: Session 1 (9am-11am), Session 2 (12pm-2pm), Session 3 (3pm-5pm).

Family Fun Day at Kellyville Village. FREE face painting, balloon twisting and fairy floss with Santa, Mrs Claus, Rudolph, Frosty and more. Saturday 30 November. 11am to 2pm.

Launch of Christmas at Hillsong. Sunday 1 December from 6pm. Every night after dark in December, see the Hillsong Hills property light up! Featuring a giant bauble, a Christmas train station, and the stunning Christmas light tunnel. Hillsong Sydney Hills Campus, 1-5 Solent Circuit Baulkham Hills.

Gingerbread House Assembly and Decorating Workshop. Sunday 1 December and Wednesday 4 December. Bella Vista Hotel. Various times available.

Kids Christmas Party at The Galston Club. Sunday 1 December. 2pm to 5pm. Tickets must be purchased by 25 November. There will be a disco, face painting, cup cake decorating and a visit from Santa. Tickets are $17 for members and $20 for non members.

Waves Christmas Family Fun Day. Saturday 7 December. 10am to 2pm. Baulkham Hills. There will be an inflatable obstacle course, BBQ Lunch, Free Access to the trampoline park. Face painting and a visit from Santa.

Free festive family fun at the Northwest Pole. ***NOW BOOKED OUT*** Tallawong Park, Rouse Hill, 7 – 20 December. Grab the kids, your elf ears and your camera and head to the Northwest Pole near Tallawong Station this December. Landcom has transformed the pocket park opposite Tallawong Station, Rouse Hill, into the Northwest Pole! There will be loads of free fun activities for the whole family including bauble decoration, yummy gingerbread making, face painting, plus games galore. Activity sessions run for one hour. Christmas Party with Groovy Suzy at Seven Hills Plaza. Wednesday 11 December. 9.30am to 12.30pm. Christmas themed storytelling, games, songs and prizes.

Christmas in the Hills. Wednesday 11 December at Bella Vista Farm Park. Beginning at 4pm with food stalls, rides and pre-show entertainment, followed by carols from 6.30pm – 9pm. Christmas in the Hills concludes with a spectacular fireworks display. Tickets $9 and kids under 2 free.

Creative Christmas Wreath Making Workshop at Hills Super Centre. Thursday 12 December. 11am to 1pm.

Christmas at the Coliseum. David Campbell and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra – Thursday 12 December and Friday 13 December. Inspired by David’s cherished memories and love for Christmas, this spectacular, fun-filled event will include a showcase of songs from David’s album ‘Baby It’s Christmas’, including the titular track, ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’ and ‘When My Heart Finds Christmas’. Other festive favourites including ‘Silent Night’, ‘Sleigh Bells’ and ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town’ will also appear. The Beanies Christmas Spectacular. Thursday 12 Dec, 6.30pm. Riverside Theatre. Laura, Mim and Michael Beanie will have Mini-Beanies singing in their seats to all their hit songs from their podcast such as Silly Dizzy DanceSneaky Robber and Painting Party as well as all the Christmas classics.

Carols in the Crescent. Saturday 14 December from 4pm to 9pm (carols 7pm to 9pm). Parramatta Park. The Sebastian Foundation’s Christmas fundraising event is a huge celebration hosted by popular entertainer and The Voice star Guy Sebastian and his wife Jules Sebastian. The event features a 2-hour stage show with dozens of performers including high-profile TV stars alongside choirs, bands, comedians, costumed characters and Father Xmas. There are children’s amusement rides, food trucks and stalls.

In the week of 9 December, the Hills Shire libraries (Vinegar Hill Memorial, Castle Hill Library, Dural and Baulkham Hills) will be holding special Christmas Storytime sessions suitable for ages 2-5 years.

Carols in the Valley. Thursday 12 December. Vision Valley, Arcadia. As the sun sets, get the kids together and relax on a picnic blanket as you sing along to your favourite carols, watch Santa arrive and share some Christmas cheer. Activities commence from 3.30pm and include giant waterslide, supervised swimming pool, canoeing (8 years+), flying fox (10 years+), petting zoo and more. Vineyard Carols Service and Festival, Sunday 15 December from 4.30pm. 357 Windsor Road Vineyard. Includes free rides, food, face painting, Santa, carols and Christmas fun for the whole family.

Northmead Community Carols, Thursday 19 December, from 6:30pm. Northmead Anglican Church, Thomas St Northmead. Arrive at 6.30pm for dinner, with a jumping castle, face painting, balloon modelling, Christmas cookies and craft, kids’ games, fairy floss, glow sticks and special Christmas message. Bring a picnic rug and enjoy carols on the lawn from 7.30pm. There will be a free sausage sizzle, cans of drink, ice creams and glow sticks.

North Rocks Carols by Candlelight, Friday 20 December at North Rocks Park from 5pm to 9pm.

West Pennant Hills Carols by Candlelight, Friday 20 December at West Pennant Hills Public School Oval from 5.30pm to 9.30pm.

Christmas Spectacular at Hillsong Convention Centre, various dates and times starting Friday 20 December to Sunday 22 December. Join us across Australia for our brand new Hillsong Christmas Spectacular, “Believe”. This epic experience features incredible live songs, stunning visual effects and of course Christmas fun for the whole family! Tickets are only $5!

Christmas Lights at Hillsong, from 1 December to 25 December starting from 7.30pm.  Hillsong Church Baulkham Hills.

Hunter Valley Christmas Lights Spectacular. A bit further afield but runs from 8 November 2019 to 26 January 2020

Santa runs

Details yet to be announced for some stations. We will publish all maps and timetables once they are available. The following Santa Runs usually run annually:

Westleigh Rural Fire Brigade Santa Run. Sunday 15 December. Starting at 8.30am. Route map with approximate timings can be found here.

Rouse Hill Santa Lolly Run. Saturday 21 December. Run by Rouse Hill Rural Fire Brigade. Starts at 1.30pm. Maps yet to be released.

Dural Rural Fire Brigade Santa Run. Sunday 22 Dec, commencing 4pm. See map here.

Galston Village Santa Run. Sunday 22 Dec, commencing 4pm. Prior to this, Santa will be at the fire station on Johnson Road from 12pm – 2pm for family photos with him and the fire truck!

The Hills SES Santa Run, suburbs include Baulkham Hills, Castle Hill, Kellyville and Bella Vista – held Christmas Eve. At his stage the route will remain the same as 2018:

  • Baulkham Hills Santa Run – starts at Merindah Road Baulkham Hills at 6pm. And concludes in Magnolia Avenue around 8.30pm to 9pm depending on traffic and crowds.
  • Castle Hill Santa Run – starts at Warwick Parade Castle Hill at 6pm. And concludes in Camberwarra Avenue at Castle Hill around 9pm depending on traffic and crowds.
  • Kellyville Santa Run – starts at Kings Road Castle Hill/Kellyville at 6pm.  And concludes in Crestwood Drive around 8.30pm to 9pm depending on traffic and crowds.

Cherrybrook Rural Fire Brigade Santa Run. Held Christmas Eve from 5.30pm.

Glenorie RFS Santa Run. Christmas Eve, 4pm.

Santa’s Sleigh Run in North Rocks is brought to us by the Rotary Club of North Rocks. They split the suburb into East and West and kick off the run at 4.30pm on Christmas Eve.
