A brand new playground has opened in The Gables, and it’s a little different from your typical neighbourhood park. Instead of one central playground, The Gables Lake Foreshore Playground features five separate play spaces spread around the edge of the lake, connected by boardwalks, walking paths and open green spaces that encourage families to explore.

Located beside Stockland Gables Town Centre, this new lakeside precinct offers more than just a place to play. With wide pathways, picnic areas and plenty of open space, it’s designed to be somewhere families can spend a few hours enjoying the outdoors.

What’s at The Gables Lake Foreshore Playground?

One of the unique features of The Gables Lake Foreshore Playground is its layout. Spread around the edge of the lake are five separate play spaces, connected by wide walking paths and boardwalks. Rather than having one large playground, the equipment is dotted along the foreshore, giving kids plenty of reasons to keep exploring as they make their way around the lake.

The play spaces include a variety of equipment for different ages and abilities, while the surrounding open lawns and lakeside setting create plenty of room for families to relax between play sessions. There’s also a basketball half court, picnic seating and wide shared paths that are ideal for prams, scooters and bikes.

Who Is It Best Suited For?

With a variety of play equipment and plenty of space to move around, The Gables Lake Foreshore Playground is expected to appeal to families with toddlers through to primary school aged children. Older children will also enjoy riding scooters or bikes along the shared pathways and shooting hoops on the basketball half court.

As the playground is located around a lake, younger children will need close supervision near the water and boardwalks.

Stargazing Park – Corner Lunette St and Valletta Dr The Gables, Box Hill.

Stargazing Park at The Gables Box Hill opened in late 2022 and offers an out of this world amount of space-themed fun for kiddies! It offers lots to do, with play structures as well as more nature based elements – there’s lots of sandstone steps and mounds to scale, as well as stumps and sleepers to traverse. There are swings, a slide, a couple of spinners and a small car too. There’s a cool alien climbing frame, flying fox and large round climbing structure and we really like the UFO shelters and the alien and rocket themed in-built trampolines! Read more here.

Slidey Park – Corner of Fontana Drive and Ironstone Parkway, The Gables Box Hill

Slidey Park is one of the original playgrounds to open in The Gables, Box Hill. Located on the corner of Fontana Drive and Ironstone Parkway, it has hillside slides, an impressive climbing structure, merry-go-round and plenty of tables and chairs (both shaded and non shaded) for friends and families to gather. We can only assume that this one has been named Slidey Park as there are 4 slide options at this playground. We love a little playground humour! Three are located on a hillside that kids love to climb, plus there’s a smaller one for toddlers on the side of a little castle. Read more here.
