Eel Festival at Elizabeth Farm. Sunday 7 March. 10am to 3pm.
Celebrate Indigenous heritage at the popular Eel Festival on Darug Country – Elizabeth Farm on Sunday 7 March. This family-friendly event celebrates Parramatta’s namesake, the eel, and its significance to the local Burramuttagal people, who would gather in autumn to trade goods and share stories and food. The day begins with a Welcome to Country and a smoking ceremony, followed by a corroboree by Nulungu Dreaming and performances by Gumaroy Newman.

Drop-in activities throughout the day including boomerang painting, weaving, and Darug language workshops, as well as a live eel display.

Explore the house and gardens, sample eel cooked traditionally in paperbark by Fred’s Bush Tucker and join Sydney Living Museums’ colonial gastronomer, Jacqui Newling in the courtyard to discover the various ways colonists prepared eels. Enjoy a meal by Indigenous food providers Kallico Catering.

The event is a wonderful opportunity to learn about, engage with and celebrate Indigenous culture.

Free entry, registration recommended via the event website.
