It’s meant to rain A LOT over the next few days, including Saturday and Sunday! Here are 10 ideas for things to do this weekend in the Hills and surrounds. It’s worth checking with each venue or organisation at the moment though, via their website or Facebook page, as to whether they’ve changed their offering given Covid-19. Also, they may be shut for parties.

Go waterfall spotting. Chuck on your gum boots and go check out a local waterfall – they DO exist! Our favourites are Balaka Falls in Carlingford and the Waterfall Walk in West Pennant Hills.

Visit an indoor play centre. Some of our favourites include Croc’s Playcentres at Rouse Hill and Marsden Park. There’s also the Marshmallow Kids Cafe in Castle Hill, Lollipops Playland & Cafe in Castle Hill and Chipmunks at Macquarie Centre. If you don’t mind a bit of a drive, there’s Planet Mino in Chatswood which is cool and a little different.

Head to a shopping centre that has indoor play equipment. If you’re feeling really adventurous you could check out The Monkey Bar at Rhodes Waterside which is fairly impressive! Otherwise North Rocks Shopping Centre has a new undercover, outdoor play area plus a little toddler play area just outside Pronto Rocks Café. Castle Towers has the Pirate Ship Playland located outside The Gold Class Cinemas. You could even head to Bunnings Castle Hill or Dural – they have good indoor play equipment. Click here for a full list of shopping centre play areas in the Hills (note, not all are indoors).

Burn off energy at Ultimate – a play centre and trampoline centre in one! Or go rock-climbing for something a little different. There are two options in Castle Hill – The Edge and Peak Pursuits.

Take a look at the Hills District Mums Activity Library – there are lots of ideas that will keep kids busy and engaged on rainy days.

Catch a movie – we’ve heard great things about Raya and the Last Dragon which is currently showing.

Head to Kellyville Pets – have a coffee and say hello to the animals.

Check out a restaurant or café with indoor play equipment. We have some listed here (note, not all listed are indoors). You could also visit Wenty Leagues, The Australian Brewery, Pennant Hills Bowling Club, The Pennant Hills Hotel – these are just some of the pubs and clubs with play areas.

Go swimming. It’s already wet so why not head to Blacktown Leisure Centre for a swim? Check out the indoor wave pool and the toddler splash pool. Hornsby Aquatic Centre has another great indoor space.

Go ten pin bowling. Our kids love going bowling. There’s Strike Bowling Castle Towers, Zone Bowling Castle Hill or Timezone Rouse Hill.  If you decide on Strike Bowling you could go for a round of golf at Holey Moley too.
